The accounting for the $213,702.40 in revenues and expenses will be in a special revenue grant fund. No City matching funds are required.

Body
WHEREAS, each year the Wisconsin Department of Transportation-Bureau of Transportation Safety (WI DOT-BOTS) provides funds to local police agencies for overtime for enforcement of traffic violations; and,

WHEREAS, this year WI DOT-BOTS has offered a total of $213,702.40 for various traffic safety and underage drinking enforcement initiatives; and,

WHEREAS, these initiatives include efforts to reduce the number of impaired motorists,
incidents of excessive vehicle speed, and the incidence of unrestrained operators/passengers on City of Madison roadways so as to contribute to decreasing the number of deaths and/or injuries due to crashes; and,

WHEREAS, these initiatives also enable safer conditions for pedestrians and bicyclists by deploying officers for enhanced enforcement of pedestrian and bicycle laws; and,

WHEREAS, a maximum of $1,950 will be spent from the Alcohol Enforcement Grant towards the purchase of additional portable breath/alcohol testing equipment; and,

WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Alcohol Risk Reduction (CARD) project focuses on the easy access to alcohol and the perception of little risk of being caught procuring or consuming alcohol that contributes to a high level of underage consumption; and,

WHEREAS, the grant funds enable the Police Department’s Traffic and Specialized Services
