DRAFTER'S ANALYSIS: Under this proposal, an alcohol beverage licensee whose license is suspended, nonrenewed or revoked shall display a sign informing the public that the establishment is closed for license suspension, nonrenewal or revocation, at each entrance to the licensed premise. This proposal also establishes that a failure to post such sign is a 100 point violation under the alcohol beverage point system and is subject to a forfeiture of not less than $100 nor more than $200 per day for each day of violation.

The Common Council of the City of Madison do hereby ordain as follows:
1. Subdivision (h) of Subsection (1) of Section 38.10 entitled “Revocation, Suspension or Nonrenewal of License” of the Madison General Ordinances is created to read as follows:
“(h) Display of Sign. When a license is suspended, revoked or nonrenewed under this section, the licensee shall post at each entrance to the licensed premise, a sign or signs, obtained from the City Clerk, that inform the public that the establishment has been closed as a result of a license suspension, revocation or nonrenewal. A licensee who fails to post or maintain a sign in a manner consistent with the requirements of this subdivision shall be subject to a forfeiture of not less than one hundred dollars ($100) nor more than ($200) per day, for each day of violation.”
