Title
Commending and thanking Alderwoman Lisa Subeck for her dedicated service to the constituents in District 1 and to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, Alderwoman Lisa Subeck was first elected to the Madison Common Council on April 5, 2011; and,
WHEREAS, during her tenure Alderwoman Subeck served on the ADA Transit Subcommittee to the Transit and Parking Commission, Alcohol License Review Committee, Board of Estimates, Committee on Sweatfree Purchases, Community Services Committee, Pedestrian/Bicycle/Motor Vehicle Commission and the Transit and Parking Commission; and,
WHEREAS, Alderwoman Subeck successfully passed a buffer zone ordinance and other initiatives to increase access to reproductive health care; and,
WHEREAS, Alderwoman Subeck led efforts to pass an ordinance requiring disclosure of the source of funding for independent expenditures made by outside groups in support or opposition to candidates for city office; and,
WHEREAS, Alderwoman Subeck successfully led and supported efforts to expand access to community services, provide funding for elimination of the waiting list for child care assistance, new initiatives to address poverty, homelessness, and equity, and ensure resources are available to address emerging needs and challenges in our neighborhoods; and,
WHEREAS, Alderwoman Subeck worked to increase access to public transit on the southwest side and citywide and to keep transit affordable for those who need it most, including the creation and later expansion of a program to offer affordable bus passes to low-income working individuals; and,
WHEREAS, Alderwoman Subeck fought for workers' rights, leading efforts to support our public employees, as well as the rights of working people throughout the city; and,
WHEREAS, Alderwoman Subeck recognized the need to preserve ordinances passed by the City Council but preempted by state legislative action, leading to passage of the 77 Square Miles ordinan...
