Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution accepts the final report and recommendations of the President’s Work Group on Environmental Justice. The report provides policy recommendations on how to mitigate the impacts of PFAS and F-35s on existing and future developments and creates a PFAS outreach strategy and a plan for the City’s role in addressing these environmental issues. No appropriation is required to accept the report, however, implementation of the recommendations and strategies may require future appropriations.

Accepting the Final Report from the President’s Work Group on Environmental Justice
Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council established the President’s Work Group on Environmental Justice on May 24, 2021; and,
WHEREAS, PFAS are a group of human-made chemicals that can enter the environment through a variety of ways, including via industrial activities, fire-fighting foams, cleaning products, certain types of consumer packaging, and more; and,
WHEREAS, F-35s are a type of high-decibel combat aircraft set to arrive at Truax Field in 2023; and,
WHEREAS, the environmental and health impacts of both PFAS and F-35s have been proven - or are projected to be - detrimental to their respective surroundings; and,
WHEREAS, the President’s Work Group on Environmental Justice was charged with developing policy recommendations on how to mitigate these impacts in addition to a PFAS outreach strategy; and,
WHEREAS, the President’s Work Group on Environmental Justice met twelve times over nine months; and,
WHEREAS, the President’s Work Group on Environmental Justice completed its work on March 14, 2022;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council accepts the final report and recommendations of the President’s Work Group on Environmental Justice.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Common Council thanks the members of the President’s Work Group on Environmental Justice for their dedication and service to the City.
