Title
Accepting ownership of the sculpture "Lantern in Beige" by Sid Boyum, to be located at the entrance of the Carpenter-Ridgeway Park .
Body
WHEREAS, Sid Boyum (now deceased), is a renowned local artist and sculpture, who resided on the east side of the City of Madison and who has been nationally recognized for his contribution to public sculpture in Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, on May 4, 1999 the Common Council passed resolution number 56507, ID number 25488 accepting ownership of thirteen (13) other Sid Boyum sculptures; and
WHEREAS, the Carpenter-Ridgeway Neighborhood Association has purchased the Sid Boyum sculpture "Lantern in Beige" for placement in the Carpenter-Ridgeway Park entrance at 1220 Carpenter St.; and
WHEREAS, the Carpenter-Ridgeway Neighborhood Association, with Randall L. Glysh as project manager, has met with staff members of the City Parks Division; Neighborhood Planning, Preservation, & Design Section; and the Madison Arts Commission; and secured permission to place the sculpture on public property.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council of the City of Madison accepts ownership, from the Carpenter-Ridgeway Neighborhood Association, of "Lantern in Beige" by Sid Boyum, subject to the following conditions:
1. The Schenk-Atwood Conservation Endowment Fund, held by the Madison Community Foundation, shall pay all costs for long-term maintenance of the sculptures.
2. The Carpenter-Ridgeway Neighborhood Association shall locate the sculpture in the Carpenter-Ridgeway Park, as approved by the Parks Division.
3. The Carpenter-Ridgeway Neighborhood Association shall comply with all Madison General Ordinances regarding the construction and installation of the sculptures.
4. The City may remove the sculpture if not properly maintained by the Schenk-Atwood Conservation Endowment Fund by giving the Schenk-Atwood Conservation Endowment Fund and the Carpenter-Ridgeway Neighborhood Association...
