Madison Empowering Responsibility in Teens Month
Body
WHEREAS, the Madison Empowering Responsibility in Teens (MERIT) program, a collaboration between Goodman Community Center and Kenney Heights Community Center, made possible through funding from the Office of Adolescent Health; and
WHEREAS, MERIT is a comprehensive program that engages a holistic approach to positive youth development including direct education, discussion, and relationship building with additional program components including academic, leadership, community service and enrichment opportunities for MERIT participants; and
WHEREAS, MERIT partners with the Madison community in eleven Madison schools, nine community centers, and eight other organizations serving youth and parents of teens; and
WHEREAS, MERIT has provided quality program implementation, reaching over 2,000 teens over a four year period and increased the likelihood of youth making safe and responsible choices around risky health behaviors; and
WHEREAS, MERIT is committed to the well-being of youth through integrated, innovative, culturally relevant adolescent programs and has responded to the challenges among youth regarding teen pregnancy, healthy relationships, and positive youth development through a city-wide project designed to empower youth to make responsible decisions in order to thrive and protect their dreams;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Paul R. Soglin, the Mayor of the City of Madison, Wisconsin, does hereby proclaim May 2014 as
MADISON EMPOWERING RESPONSIBILITY IN TEENS MONTH
in the city of Madison, Wisconsin.
