Honoring organizations that offered their spaces to serve as polling places for the August 11th, 2020 Partisan Primary
Body
WHEREAS, the novel type of coronavirus (COVID-19) has spread to over 100 countries, infected millions world-wide, over 5 million in the United States alone, and has a current death toll in the US of over 170,000, and
WHEREAS, the appearance of the novel Corona Virus, COVID-19, has uprooted the idea and practice of “business-as-usual,” and
WHEREAS, COVID-19 has complicated public and private operational practices throughout the country, and
WHEREAS, it has placed strains on employees, volunteers, customers and clients from all walks of life, and
WHEREAS, the response to COVID-19 has been a patchwork of complimentary and competing guidelines from county, state and federal authorities, and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison’s 86 polling places for the 2020 Partisan Primary run the gamut from churches to schools, from fire stations to grocery stores, from bowling alleys to community centers, and
WHEREAS, managers and staff at all of these locations responded to the Clerk’s Office’s urgent requests to be a polling place thoughtfully and compassionately, and
WHEREAS, the managers and staff at all 86 venues across the City of Madison replied to the Clerk’s request to be a polling place with a resounding “Yes,”
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Madison recognizes, thanks and elevates every venue that served as a polling place for the August 11th Partisan Primary, as examples of civic and community pride and true examples of democracy in action.
