WHEREAS, the Madison Common Council believes that physical buildings are a part of creating the right environment for great teaching and learning; and,

WHEREAS, on December 15, 2014, the Board of Education voted to ask our community to consider a referendum in April to address the MMSD's most immediate facility needs, including:

•Constructing additions in five elementary schools
•Ensuring that schools are accessible to all students, staff and families
•Renovating a few school buildings to address immediate physical plant concerns and improving learning spaces
•Upgrading infrastructure to support students' increasing use of technology

WHEREAS, quality of our public schools has a strong and direct impact on property values in our community,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Madison Common Council supports these investments in our public schools and encourages residents on April 7, 2015 to vote "yes" on the MMSD referendum to address facility needs in our schools.
