Title
Honoring and commending the civic dedication and work of Dr. Frank D. Byrne on his retirement as President of St. Mary's Hospital.
Body
WHEREAS, after ten years as President of St. Mary's Hospital, Dr. Frank Byrne retired on January 30, 2015; and,
WHEREAS, the many accomplishments during Frank's tenure include a nearly doubling in size of St. Mary's with the completion of its expansion in 2008, the implementation of Epic's electronic health record system, the opening of St. Mary's Sun Prairie Emergency Center, the addition of the first and only Ronald McDonald Family room in a Wisconsin hospital, playing an integral role in the merger of St. Mary's parent company SSM Health with the Dean Health System and the establishment of a $1.3 million endowment for nursing education; and,
WHEREAS, under Frank's leadership St. Mary's has won numerous awards for patient satisfaction, safety and quality standards, including being named one of the 100 Top Hospitals in 2006, one of the 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Engagement by Becker's Hospital Review in 2013, one of the nation's 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2014 by Truven Health Analytics, as well as Press Ganey's Guardian of Excellence and Beacon of Excellence awards in 2014; and,
WHEREAS, Frank has been an active member in many professional organizations, including serving on the Board of Governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and the board of the American College of Physician Executives - which inducted him as a Distinguished Fellow, and,
WHEREAS, he has been recognized by Modern Healthcare and Modern Physician magazines as one of the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare in 2011, designated a "Champion in Women's Health" by the Wisconsin Women's Health Foundation in 2013, named "Citizen of the Year" by the Glacier's Edge Council of the Boy Scouts and most recently given the Lifetime Achievement Award by InBusiness Greater Madison which had previously inducted him into their Business Hall of Fame in 2012; and,
WHEREAS, Frank has created strong partnerships by being a vital and active member of many community organizations, including serving on the boards of the Madison Community Foundation, the Greater Madison Area Chamber of Commerce, the Urban League of Greater Madison, the Wisconsin Hospital Association and the Wisconsin Medical Society and his continuing service to St. Mary's by serving on its Foundation board,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council congratulates and expresses its sincere appreciation to Dr. Frank Byrne for his service to St. Mary's Hospital and the Madison area community; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council and entire community wishes him and his wife Cindy much deserved happiness in their next adventures, which will hopefully include multiple appearances of The Grooving Needles, impromptu meetings at The Curve, showing off the latest Jerry Garcia ties at events and remaining a vital and vibrant asset to the fabric of our community.
