Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution approves geometry, plans, and specifications and authorizes the Board of Public Works to advertise and receive bids for the Mineral Point Road Widened Sidewalk. The total estimated cost of the project is $7.375 million. Funding is available as part of the overall Bus Rapid Transit project. No additional appropriation is required.

SUBSTITUTE - Approving geometry, plans, and specifications and authorizing the Board of Public Works to advertise and receive bids for Mineral Point Road Widened Sidewalk. (District 9, District 11, District 19)
Body
WHEREAS,
1) The Mineral Point Road corridor currently has established yet deficient accommodations for cyclists.
2) To resolve poor bicycle accommodations the Bus Rapid Transit project will widen the established north sidewalk to accommodate multiple types of users.
3) The widened sidewalk is part of the Bus Rapid Transit project negotiations and agreement with the Federal Transit Administration, receiving federal funding for its construction.
4) City Transportation and Forestry staff, in coordination with consultant staff, have developed a geometry that preserves trees while still providing a protected all ages and abilities facility for different types of users.
5) In future years, City Transportation and Engineering staff will continue to seek improvements to the widened sidewalk in constrained areas.
6) The Transportation Commission voted to approve the geometry, plans, and specifications with the modification that 475 feet of the narrow sidewalk be widened to at least 8 feet at Stations 89+00, 134+50, 136+20, and 158+50.
7) The Board of Public Works voted to approve the geometry, plans, and specifications with the modification that 200 feet of the narrow sidewalk be widened to at least 8 feet at Stations 134+50 and 136+20.
BE IT RESOLVED,
1) That the geometry, plans, and specifications for Mineral Point Road Widened Sidewalk, be and are hereby approved, with the modification that 200 feet of the narrow sidewalk be widened to at least 8 feet at Stations 134+50 and 136+20.
2) That the Board of Public Works is hereby authorized to advertise and receive bids for said project.
3) That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to accept dedication of lands and/or easements from the Developer/Owner for public improvements located outside of existing public fee title or easement right-of-ways.
