Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution terminates the Interim Police Monitor’s appointment, effective immediately. The resolution also authorizes the Common Council Chief of Staff to supervise the Office of the Independent Monitor’s (OIM) staff until a permanent Independent Police Monitor is hired or until further direction of the Common Council.
The annual salary for the position is $153,985. If the resolution is adopted, there would be an approximate salary and benefits savings of $33,000 for the remaining 4.9 pay periods of 2026. The City may incur costs such as paying out of remaining leave balances and the potential cost of unemployment claims. Note that the State of Wisconsin determines eligibility for unemployment claims. The net fiscal impact for the OIM’s department wide budget is contingent on the agency's total spending at year-end.
