Title

Board of Health for Madison and Dane County Resolution #2023-18 Authorization to collect additional funds to support the West Nile Virus Mosquito Assessment and Control Program from partner municipalities and organizations

Body

Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) proposed the collection of an additional $8,000 of revenue to support the West Nile Virus Mosquito Assessment and Control Program in 2023. The Board of Health for Madison and Dane County previously approved Resolution #2022-35 authorizing the acceptance of $32,000 from partner municipalities for mosquito surveillance and control. This amount did not account for the 9% increase in staff salaries passed by the Dane County Board for 2023, which will apply to the staff completing this work. PHMDC intends to collect the additional $8,000 in revenue through adjustments to the cost share agreements with partner municipalities or organizations.

The West Nile Virus Mosquito Assessment and Control Program monitors public water sources that are likely to support mosquito breeding and apply larvicide in sites that have high numbers of Culex mosquito larvae, the species of mosquito most likely to carry and transmit West Nile virus in our community.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County on behalf of Public Health Madison and Dane County authorizes the Director of Public Health, or their designee, to accept the additional funding amount of $8,000, adjust the 2023 Public Health Budget, and sign the related cost share agreements.
