Expressing sincere appreciation to retired Madison Police Department Captain Mike Hanson for his years of dedicated service to the City of Madison.

Body

WHEREAS, Mike Hanson first joined the Madison Police Department (MPD) as an officer in 2001; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mike Hanson recently retired from the MPD and served in many capacities to include the promoted positions of Sergeant beginning in 2009, Lieutenant beginning in 2013, and Captain beginning in 2019; and,

 

WHEREAS, retired Captain Mike Hanson served throughout the entire City of Madison in many roles during his career, including the positions of patrol officer in the Central District, the Hammersley Road Neighborhood Police Officer, Patrol Sergeant and Training Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Captain of the South District, and finally as the Captain of the Central District; and,

 

WHEREAS, retired Captain Mike Hanson also served as commander of the MPD Unmanned Aircraft Systems team after helping create and launch the team in 2017; and,

 

WHEREAS, retired Captain Mike Hanson always prioritized community outreach, engagement, and effective problem solving while serving the Madison Community; and,

 

WHEREAS, retired Captain Mike Hanson always led his fellow members of the Madison Police Department with positivity, unwavering optimism, dedication, and reliable, calm leadership every day;

  

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and the Madison Common Council express their sincere appreciation to retired Madison Police Department Captain Mike Hanson for his years of dedicated service, especially for the past two years leading the Central Police District.
