Expressing appreciation for the services and dedication that Assistant Fire Chief Tracy L. Burrus gave to our community during her 22 years of service to the City of Madison
Body
WHEREAS, Assistant Fire Chief Tracy L. Burrus started with the Madison Fire Department on October 15, 2001, and retired on April 2, 2024, after more than 22 years of dedicated service to our community; and,
WHEREAS, she began her firefighting career in 1995 in Macomb, Illinois; and,
WHEREAS, Assistant Fire Chief Burrus began her MFD career as a Firefighter/EMT at Fire Station 4 on Monroe Street; and,
WHEREAS, she was promoted to Apparatus Engineer in 2011; and,
WHEREAS, she was promoted to Lieutenant in 2014; and,
WHEREAS, she was promoted to Division Chief of Training in 2016; and,
WHEREAS, Assistant Fire Chief Burrus oversaw 5 Recruit Academies as Division Chief of Training, resulting in the addition of 72 recruits to our department workforce; and,
WHEREAS, she was promoted to Assistant Chief of Personnel in 2019; and,
WHEREAS, she was the first Black woman to be promoted to the ranks of Lieutenant, Division Chief, and Assistant Chief in the Madison Fire Department; and,
WHEREAS, she was recognized as one of Wisconsin’s First Responders of the Year in 2019;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council express their appreciation for the services and dedication that Assistant Fire Chief Tracy L. Burrus gave to our community during her 22 years of service to the City of Madison.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council express that Assistant Fire Chief Burris, her leadership, her dedication, and her friendship will be missed and that we wish her the best in her retirement from the City of Madison Fire Department.
