Title
Amending the Public Health Budget to Accept Funds for Court Ordered Restitution to Public Health for Animal Care
Body
WHEREAS, Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) proposes the acceptance of $1,635 for court ordered restitution of funds spent by Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) to care for an individual’s dog that was impounded due to welfare concerns; and
WHEREAS, the dog received care for 90 days to bring him up to a healthy weight and address other medical issues; and
WHEREAS, PHMDC paid DCHS $906 (55%) for the dog’s care during impound. DCHS did not invoice PHMDC the remaining $729 (45%) of the costs they incurred that represents the amount DCHS paid towards the dog’s care; and
WHEREAS, PHMDC will receive these funds in monthly payments of $150 until the full amount of the ordered restitution is paid. PHMDC will forward $67.50 of each payment to DCHS to cover their share of the costs; and
WHEREAS, the funds retained by PHMDC will be returned to the Department’s Animal Services budget (Org code 32206, Obj code 53210 Work Supplies) and be used to pay for program expenses.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Director of Public Health Madison and Dane County, or their designee, is authorized to accept and expend the funding, and increase the 2023 Public Health Budget by $1,635.
