The proposed resolution authorizes a double-fill of an Assistant City Attorney position. The cost to double-fill the position for 7 payroll periods is $24,000. Additional costs will be accommodated within the existing budget for the Attorney's Office. No additional appropriation required.

WHEREAS, Steve Brist, Assistant City Attorney in the Office of the City Attorney, will retire from the City of Madison effective September 1, 2023 after 25 years of employment; and
WHEREAS, the Attorney’s Office anticipates a new Assistant Attorney will be hired for this position by August 1, 2023.
WHEREAS, the Attorney’s Office is requesting that the Assistant City Attorney position be double-filled from approximately August 1, 2023 until mid-November, 2023 (7 payroll periods), when leave balances are exhausted and Steve Brist is off City payroll.
WHEREAS, the double-fill will exceed 30 days.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the double filling of the Assistant City Attorney Position (No. 1) currently held by Steve Brist in the Office of the City Attorney is approved.
