Title

Board of Health for Madison and Dane County Resolution #2023-17 Authorization to Accept Funds from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services for the Tobacco Prevention & Control Program

Body

Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) proposes the acceptance of $35,000 from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Juul Settlement to address nicotine use and vaping among 18-24 year-olds. This money is being awarded to us through a class action lawsuit filed by States against Juul. DHS allowed currently funded tobacco prevention coalitions/alliances to apply for funds, which PHMDC applied for and was awarded.

Public Health Madison & Dane County plans to collaborate with University Health Services to address vaping through prevention, strategic communications, and the promotion of the WI Tobacco Quit Line expanded services.  Additionally, funds will be used to strengthen the Dane County Alliance Against Commercial Tobacco (DC AACT) FACT groups ability to educate the community about vaping and the impact of nicotine use.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County on behalf of Public Health Madison and Dane County authorizes the Director of Public Health, or their designee, to sign the agreement, accept and expend the funding, and increase the 2023 Public Health Budget by $35,000.
