This resolution authorizes receipt of an EMS Flex Grant award in the amount $145,760 from the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services and amends the Fire Department's 2023 adopted general fund operating budget to increase state revenue and supplies expense. The grant funds operating expenses related to EMS services, including but not limited to supplies, equipment, training, vehicles, and staffing. There is no impact on the levy.

Amending the 2023 adopted operating budget for the City of Madison Fire Department to accept a $145,760 EMS Flex Grant (project 12458) from the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Office of Preparedness and Emergency Healthcare's EMS Section.

Body

WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin EMS Flex Grant provides funding to stabilize EMS providers and ensure they can continue to respond to emergencies;

 

WHEREAS, the costs associated with providing these services continue to increase;

 

WHEREAS, the EMS Flex Grant funding allows for operating expenses related to EMS services, including but not limited to supplies, equipment, training, vehicles, and staffing;

 

WHEREAS, the City of Madison Fire Department (MFD) applied for and has been awarded grant funding, which will be deposited by the State of Wisconsin in 2023;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Madison Fire Department is authorized to accept the awarded grant amount of $145,760;

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that any grant funds received are appropriated to the Madison Fire Department to be used for the purposes of the grant, including modifications upon appropriate approvals from the funder; and

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Common Council amends the 2023 adopted operating budget for the Madison Fire Department by increasing state revenue and supplies expense by $145,760.
