Recognizing the third annual Civic Season from Juneteenth to Independence Day. 

Body

WHEREAS, our community is inclusive, innovative, and thriving when everyone’s voices and votes are heard, and everyone is able to see themselves reflected in our democracy; and

 

WHEREAS, our city values are equity, civic engagement, well-being, shared prosperity, and stewardship; and

 

WHEREAS, Civic Season is an opportunity for Madison residents to develop their civic literacy; and

 

WHEREAS, Civic Season invites each member of our community to discover and unleash their civic superpowers to build a "more perfect union;" and

 

WHEREAS, Civic Season invites each of us to examine our history from diverse perspectives; and

 

WHEREAS, Civic Season provides space for building community and collaboration; and

 

WHEREAS, Civic Season compels us to address the systemic racism that has historically prevented BIPOC communities from full enfranchisement; and

 

WHEREAS, Civic Season reminds us to intentionally work on alleviating the barriers to equitable and inclusive participation in our democracy;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Madison will celebrate the third annual Civic Season from Juneteenth to Independence Day; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that each Madison resident is encouraged to learn, reflect, and mobilize to shape our future.
