Commending and thanking Alder Sheri Carter for her dedicated service to the constituents in District 14 and to the City of Madison.

WHEREAS, Alder Sheri Carter was elected to the Madison Common Council on April 7, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Alder Carter served on the City-County Liaison Committee; Community Development Authority; Madison Arts Commission; Plan Commission; Urban Design Commission; Water Utility Board; Common Council Organizational Committee; President’s Work Group on Police & Community Relations; President’s Work Group to Develop City-Wide Surveillance Equipment & Data Management Policies; Task Force on the Structure of City Government; Historic Preservation Plan Advisory Committee; Truman Olson Selection Committee; Alcohol License Review Committee; Room Tax Commission; Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award Committee; Common Council Executive Committee; Finance Committee; President’s Work Group to Review and Revise the Chief of Staff Position Description; President’s Work Group on Racial Justice, Antiracism and Equity; Urban Forestry Task Force; Destination Madison Board; and Alliant Energy Center Redevelopment Committee; and
WHEREAS, Alder Carter was elected by her peers to serve as Vice President of the Common Council from 2018-2019; and
WHEREAS, Alder Carter was elected by her peers to serve as President of the Common Council from 2020-2021; and
WHEREAS, Alder Carter helped with the creation of the Equity Business Initiative, now known as the Commercial Ownership Assistance Program; and
WHEREAS, Alder Carter put forward successful budget amendments for $1.5 million for Penn Park renovation and $2.5 million for a new Bridge-Lake Point-Waunona Neighborhood Center; and
WHEREAS, Alder Carter secured a grocery store for South Madison, keeping the tradition of having a grocery store in South Madison since the 1950s; and
WHEREAS, Alder Carter supported the Black Business Hub, the Center for Black Excellence and Culture, and Centro Hispano; and
WHEREAS, Alder Carter co-chaired the “Vote Yes 2 Invest” 2020 referendum, which included a new South Madison school, Badger Rock Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Alder Carter championed the selection of South Madison as the new location of Madison College Goodman South Campus; and
WHEREAS, Alder Carter has been a strong supporter of the Violence Prevention initiatives, services and programs; and
WHEREAS, Alder Carter supported the vision and implementation of the Community Alternative Response Emergency Services (CARES) program and the Small Business Equity Recovery (SBER) program;
WHEREAS, Alder Carter, through her hard work and dedication to her alder duties, has faithfully and with honor served her constituents and the City of Madison;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council commend and thank Alder Sheri Carter for her dedicated service to her constituents in District 14 and the City of Madison.
