Title

Board of Health for Madison and Dane County Resolution #2023-10 Authorization to accept funds as a subgrantee of University of Wisconsin project entitled “Impact of local differences in vaccine uptake on SARS-CoV-2 evolution and spread across three Upper Midwestern states”

Body

Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) proposes accepting grant funding from the University of Wisconsin as a subgrantee on the project “Impact of local differences in vaccine uptake on SARS-CoV-2 evolution and spread across three Upper Midwestern states" from the DHHS, PHS, CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL & (Sponsor) under agreement number 75D30122C15355 (Prime Award), (FAIN 75D30122C15355), in the amount of $49,994.

The project aims to assess whether different types of communities in the Upper Midwest -- urban vs. rural, socioeconomically advantaged vs. underserved, vaccinated vs. undervaccinated -- harbor higher levels of SARS-CoV-2 sequence diversity and virus transmission. This is specifically responsive to CDC’s research interest to: “Conduct studies that compare SARS-CoV-2 sequence diversity and viral phylodynamics within and between regions with different public health response timelines and strategies, especially studies that evaluate changes in viral diversity in the context of vaccination campaigns.”

The funds will be put toward personnel costs, specifically to extend the tenure of grant-supported staff to work on this project.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County on behalf of Public Health Madison and Dane County authorizes the Director of Public Health, or their designee, to accept and expend the funding amount of $49,994, sign the related agreement, and adjust the 2023 Public Health Budget accordingly.
