2022-2023 Board of Park Commissioners Park and Golf Course Locations Designated as Part of the City's Cross Country Ski Program

Parks Division staff have worked to continuously improve winter recreation offerings and strengthen relationships with community partners. As a result, staff worked with the City Attorney’s Office to revise the existing ordinance related to the cross country skiing permit program. On November 22, 2022, Common Council Adopted Leg File# 74298 (ORD-22-00123): Amending Section 8.27(3) of the Madison General Ordinances to update the Cross-Country Ski Permit Program. This ordinance revision updates the City’s existing cross-country ski program and permit system. The ordinance removes the specific references to Elver Park and Odana Hills, and instead places the location of covered facilities under the authority of the Board of Parks Commissioners, who can designate certain parks and golf courses as part of the City’s cross country ski program. The fees from the permit are used to support the City’s cross-country ski program and maintenance activities at the covered locations. This change will give the Parks Division more flexibility in locating cross-country ski facilities within the City’s park and golf course system and better meet the recreational needs of the community.
The Board of Park Commissioners will discuss and determine locations designated as part of the City’s 2022-23 Cross Country Ski Program as follows:
• Elver Park
• Odana Golf Course
• Door Creek Park
