The National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are working together to provide funding to local, state, and tribal agencies that are making progress towards conformance of the Retail Program Standards. The Retail Program Standards also intersect with the Public Health Accreditation Board by providing a performance-based system for continuous improvement. Public Health Madison & Dane County enrolled in the Retail Program Standards in 2015, and has since been pursuing full compliance with all of the Retail Program Standards. Currently Public Health is on track to complete another program assessment, maintain conformance with Standard 7 ‘Industry and Community Relations’, and to be audited for conformance with Standard 3 ‘Inspection Program Based on HACCP Principles’.
In 2022, we were awarded a 3-Year maintenance and advancement base grant to support our work towards conformance with the Retail Program Standards. In 2023, we seek additional support by applying for three add-on grants for mentorship, training, and special projects. For the mentorship grant we are requesting $13,990 to establish a relationship with a PHAB accredited, local health department to assist with the acquisition of tools, resources, and recommendations for continuous improvement to support our work on the Retail Program Standards. The training grant will fund $7,500 for three staff to attend the 2023 National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) and National Association of City and County Health Officers (NACCHO) Annual Conference.
