The proposed resolution amends Traffic Engineering’s 2022 Adopted Capital Budget to appropriate $130,000 in federal funds within the Traffic Safety Infrastructure capital program. These funds are from a federal grant award under the Transportation Alternatives Program and will be used to develop a comprehensive Safe Routes to School plan. The grant requires a 20% local match, which will be funded from existing appropriation from the Traffic Safety Infrastructure capital program. No additional local appropriation is required.

WHEREAS, the City of Madison Traffic Engineering is proposing to work in partnership with the Wisconsin Bicycle Federation and the Madison Metropolitan School District to develop a comprehensive Safe Routes to School plan including an analysis of Unusually Hazardous Transportation areas;
WHEREAS, the project was awarded a federal grant under the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) that will reimburse 80% of participating construction costs to a maximum of $130,000. The proposed project is planned for implementation starting in 2022;
WHEREAS, Traffic Engineering’s 2022 Adopted Capital Budget appropriated $20,000 in General Fund supported GO borrowing that will service as the local match for the TAP grant;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the 2022 Adopted Capital Budget is amended to appropriated $130,000 of federal sources within Traffic Engineering’s Traffic Safety Infrastructure capital program.
