Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution supports and approves the City of Madison submission of an application to the US DOT for a Reconnecting Communities Pilot Discretionary Grant Program. If awarded, the resolution approves the acceptance of the grant and authorizes the Mayor and City Clerk to enter a grant agreement with US DOT. The requested grant amount is anticipated to be about $1 million. This resolution commits to providing the required 20% matching funds, up to $200,000, should the proposed grant be awarded to the City of Madison. Funding for the local match would need to be included in the 2023 Capital Budget.

Whereas, the City of Madison has adopted plans that call for eliminating barriers and creating new connections, including the Oscar Mayer Special Area Plan (2020), the South Madison Plan (2022), and the Odana Area Plan (2021)
Whereas, the US DOT’s Reconnecting Communities Pilot Discretionary Grant Program has allocated $50 million for planning, engineering, and engagement activities for removing, retrofitting, or mitigating barriers to reconnect communities; and
