Focused Interruption Inc. provides intervention support services at area hospitals to victims and perpetrators of violence. They use a holistic approach to reduce generational trauma by providing evidence-based intervention and prevention services to the people, neighborhoods and families most impacted by gun violence.

In November 2021, as a part of the ongoing violence prevention efforts supported by Public Health Madison and Dane County, Common Council allocated $200,000 to Public Health Madison and Dane County’s 2022 Operating budget to support the ongoing hospital-based violence interruption work that Focused Interruption Inc. conducts.

Focused Interruption’s areas of focus under this contract will be:

1. RESPOND TO INCIDENTS OF VIOLENCE
Provide trauma informed crisis response for violent incidents involving adults between the ages of 18-65 within hospitals and healthcare systems in the City of Madison. Focused Interruption will provide on-sight de-escalation, support, and follow up for individuals and families within the healthcare setting. Focused Interruption may also respond to scenes outside of a healthcare setting to perform de-escalation, support, and follow up for individuals and families.

2. CONNECT WITH INDIVIDUALS AT RISK OF PARTICIPATING IN VIOLENCE
Follow up with individuals who have been identified as being at risk for participating in violence or retaliatory violence via referral methods with the goals of connecting them to peer support services and other services and programming while also stopping retaliatory violent acts.

3. ENGAGE PARTICIPANTS IN SUPPORT SERVICES
Encourage individuals to participate in support services which includes motivational interviewing, and tools for positive behavior change and success. Programming may also include referrals to housing services, employment res...
