Commending and thanking Alderperson Lindsay Lemmer for her dedicated service to the constituents in District 3 and to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, Alderperson Lindsay Lemmer was elected to the Madison Common Council on April 2, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Alderperson Lemmer served on the Plan Commission, the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County, Common Council Executive Committee, Economic Development Committee, Public Market Development Committee, Ad Hoc Redistricting Committee, City-County Homeless Issues Committee, Equal Opportunities Commission, Housing Strategy Committee, President's Work Group on Environmental Justice and President's Work Group to Review Council Communication Tools & Processes; and
WHEREAS, as a member of the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Alder Lemmer was proud to stand up for science, data and for saving lives by supporting critical emergency orders and the exceptional leadership of the Director of Public Health,
WHEREAS, Alder Lemmer worked to establish safety improvements throughout her district which include additions coming this year to make the Milwaukee Street bridge over the interstate safer for pedestrians and bicycles, much needed pedestrian safety and traffic calming on and around Milwaukee Street, Sprecher Road and Cottage Grove Road among other areas,
WHEREAS, Alder Lemmer was pleased to stand with UW Health nurses as they advocate for their right to organize while they deal with staffing shortages, supply shortages, and risk theirs and their family’s health to care for all of us;
WHEREAS, Alder Lemmer was pleased to work with Captain Matt Tye to establish a plan to move mental health crisis transports to a third party from the police department so that people experiencing the worst day of their lives aren’t further traumatized, and is grateful to former Madison Mental Health Officer Ryan Jennissen for alerting her to this need, and looks forward to seeing this work continue under the leadership of Alders Currie, Figueroa-Cole, Conklin, Vidaver and Paulson;
WHEREAS, Alder Lemmer worked to to make it easier and more affordable to live in Madison and was happy to sponsor a variety of ordinances and funding to make it easier to add sorely needed housing,
WHEREAS, Alder Lemmer worked to address violence as the public health crisis that it is and sponsored additional investments in violence prevention and for the city’s collaboration with Focused Interruption,
WHEREAS, due to Alder Lemmer’s efforts, Madison cats are landing on their feet due to the ban on cat declawing and the ban on landlords requiring resident cats to be declawed,
WHEREAS, Alder Lemmer worked hard to understand and to hear the priorities and voices of District 3 and to represent that diversity of voices in her positions and efforts and provided frequent updates in her blog and in neighborhood meetings and events,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council commend and thank Alderperson Lindsay Lemmer for her dedicated service to her constituents in District 3 and to the City of Madison.
