Body
The proposed resolution accepts a donation of free weights and rack systems from DICK’s Sporting Goods, Inc. to outfit all 14 fire stations and to improve the health and wellness of Madison Fire Department (MFD) employees. This fitness equipment will also be utilized by recruits during current and future MFD academies. Regular exercise has been linked to improvements in stress, anxiety, depression, insulin sensitivity, heart health, and body composition and can help reduce or prevent the chronic health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, and hypertension.

WHEREAS, under Madison General Ordinances Section 4.29(4), the City may accept gifts valued over $10,000 from non-affiliated organizations by Common Council resolution;

WHEREAS, DICK’s Sporting Goods, Inc. have offered to donate $21,456 worth of fitness equipment to the City;

WHEREAS, fitness equipment will increase the overall health and wellness of our Madison Fire Department employees to better prepare them to manage the daily stresses of being a first responder;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Common Council authorizes the City of Madison Fire Department to accept a donation of workout equipment, valued at $21,456, from DICK’S Sporting Goods, Inc. and authorizes the Mayor, Fire Chief, and Finance Director to sign a product donation agreement under MGO Sec.4.29(4);
