The proposed resolution authorizes a contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs for the Fire Department to provide firefighting services to the William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital. The one-year contract is effective July 1, 2022, and is for $58,073. The contract also includes four optional one year extensions. If all options are exercised, the contract expiration date would be June 30, 2027 with a total compensation of $320,941. Revenue from this contract is included in the Fire Department's 2022 Adopted Operating Budget. No appropriation is required.

WHEREAS, Council Adopted RES-17-00395 (Legistar file 46848) authorized a contract between the City of Madison Fire Department (MFD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for MFD to provide fire protection services to the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital;
WHEREAS, the signed contract included a base period of May 1, 2017 through April 30, 2018 with four option year renewals, the fourth of which expired April 30, 2022;
WHEREAS, the VA and MFD extended the current fourth option year through June 30, 2022 in order to provide enough time for a new contract to be drafted and processed by the VA and the City of Madison;
WHEREAS, a new contract has been awarded to the City of Madison from the VA, effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023 with four one-year option renewal periods to be exercised at the discretion of the VA;
WHEREAS, payment due to MFD from the VA for the base year will be $58,073 with the following annual amount for the subsequent one-year option renewal periods:

· Option year three = $67,277
