I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following resident committee appointments.

 

*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents.

Pursuant to Sec. 3.30(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, "...provision shall not apply to a member of or candidate for appointment to a City of Madison board, committee or commission where, in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of a non-resident member who is particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience with Madison business concerns or other Madison-based employers and the Mayor specifies fully to the Common Council the reasons why he or she is recommending such appointment."

 

 

LAKE MONONA WATERFRONT AD HOC COMMITTEE

 

CHANDRA M. MILLER FIENEN (6th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Board of Park Commissioners Member.

 

                     Currently serving on: Board of Park Commissioners (BPC)

 

RAHEL DESALEGNE (9th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Professional Civil/Structural Engineer. Rahel Desalegne is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) with an undergraduate degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in transportation/traffic engineering.

 

                     Currently serving on: Sister City Collaboration Committee

 

CLAIRE C. SCHAEFER OLEKSIAK (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Madison Parks Foundation Board Member.

 

JUDY F. KAROFSKY (2nd A.D.) - appoint to the position of Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center Board Member.

 

                     Currently serving on: Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center Board (county appointee)

 

ALLEN A. ARNTSEN (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Friends of Nolen Waterfront Member.

 

AARON J. WILLIAMS (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Board of Public Works Member.

 

                     Currently serving on: Board of Public Works

 

RAJAN SHUKLA (11th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Community Representative. Raj Shukla is the Midwest Director of Freshwater Policy for The Nature Conservancy.

 

NATALIE L. ERDMAN (19th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Community Representative. Natalie Erdman is the former director of the City of Madison’s Department of Planning & Community & Economic Development.

 

*JANICE M. RICE, Stoughton - appoint to the position of Community Representative.

 

Rationale: Janice Rice is currently a lecturer with the UW-Madison School of Information. She is a member of several organizations including the Friends of Lake Kegonsa, Ho-Chunk Nation & City of Madison Joint Planning Committee and Ho-Chunk Museum and Cultural Center. She has spoken to numerous groups about Ho-Chunk values and relationships to land, water and quality of life.

 

CEDRIC A. JOHNSON (6th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Community Representative. Cedric Johnson is the Customer Engagement & Community Development Manager for Madison Gas & Electric.

 

JAY R. SULLIVAN (4th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Community Representative. Jay Sullivan is currently a student majoring in landscape architecture at the UW-Madison.

 

*ZANG VANG, Sun Prairie - appoint to the position of Community Representative.

 

Rationale: Zang Vang is a Windows Server Administrator with the Wisconsin Department of Administration. He is a life-long Madison resident and active within the Hmong community. He has volunteered with several organizations including the Friends of Lake Wingra Project, Wisconsin Hmong Association and Habitat for Humanity.

 

E. CRISTINA CARVAJAL (9th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Community Representative. E. Cristina Carvajal is a scientist and environmental advocate. She is a sustainability instructor at the Latino Academy of Workforce Development and the founder of Wisconsin Ecolatinos.

 

                     Currently serving on: Sustainable Madison Committee
