The proposed resolution amends the Police Department’s 2022 operating budget and authorizes the acceptance of a Juvenile Justice Title II grant award from the State of Wisconsin Department of Justice. The grant will fund $33,600 to RISE Wisconsin, Inc. for youth mentoring in the Community Violence Intervention: Breaking the Cycle wraparound services pilot program. There is no city matching requirement or levy impact.

WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Justice (WDOJ) is using federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act funds for Positive Youth Development programs that assist delinquent and at-risk youth in obtaining a sense of safety and structure, belonging and membership, self-worth and social contribution, independence and control over one’s life, and closeness in interpersonal relationships; and,

WHEREAS, WDOJ has made a pass-through grant award of up to $33,600 to the Madison Police Department for youth mentoring provided by RISE Wisconsin, Inc., in the Community Violence Intervention: Breaking the Cycle wraparound services pilot program, a partnership initiative of MPD and RISE.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Chief of Police or designee are authorized to accept a one-year Juvenile Justice Title II grant award from the Wisconsin Department of Justice in the amount of $33,600.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that that the Police Department is authorized to accept this grant award from the Wisconsin Department of Justice to $33,600 and to enter into a contract with grant partner RISE Wisconsin, Inc., for these pass...
