Title
Dane County Department of Waste & Renewables Informational Presentation Regarding Possible Future Use of Portion of Yahara Hills Golf Course for Proposed Yahara Sustainability Campus
Body
Dane County Department of Waste & Renewables and the City of Madison Public Works are interested in negotiating a land sale agreement involving a portion of Yahara Hills Golf Course for use as a sustainability campus. Dane County’s Rodefeld Landfill directly across Highway 12 from the Yahara Hills Golf Course is nearing capacity and will need to close within the next decade. This will create a waste management issue for the City of Madison and surrounding communities within Dane County. The cost of transporting trash and recyclables to facilities outside of Dane County will be cost prohibitive. The proposed transaction involves the sale of some land currently included in the Parkland Inventory as Golf Enterprise Property, and will require permanent closure of 18 holes of golf within the next few years. The City has an interest in efficiently and responsibly managing its waste and recyclables in a cost-effective manner. Dane County staff will provide overview of the current waste management needs, as well as proposed conceptual project and timeline for the transaction and development.
