Title

Request from City Engineering for Use of Undeveloped Park Land South of Yahara Hills Golf Course for Purpose of Storing and Dewatering Dredging Material from Spring Harbor Outfall Wall Repair Project.

Body

City Engineering is in the planning phase of a maintenance dredging project for Spring Harbor to maintain public recreational boating access to Lake Mendota. The average harbor depth is currently 2.5’, causing difficulty launching boats from the public boat launch and private docks. The final scale of the project will be determined by grant funding, however Engineering and Parks both have dredging as part of their CIP.  The dredged material would be transported from Spring Harbor in water tight trucks to be dewatered at the proposed undeveloped Parks site south of Yahara Hills Golf course approximately between November 1 and the following April. Once the material is dewatered, the Contractor would transport and dispose of it at the Dane County Landfill. The Yahara location  is critical to the project plan, as changing dewatering locations will change the project cost that was estimated throughout the grant process.
