Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution appoints Nasra Wehelie to fill the vacant alderperson position for District 7 effective November 17, 2020 and to serve until the spring 2021 election. Funding for the position is available in the Common Council 2020 Adopted Operating Budget and is included in the 2021 Executive Operating Budget as amended by the Finance Committee. No additional appropriation is required.
Title
Appointing Nasra Wehelie as Alderperson for District 7 to serve until the Spring 2021 election.
Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee met on October 30, 2020 to make a recommendation on the appointment of an Alderperson for District 7 according to the procedures outlined in Madison General Ordinances 2.03; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee reviewed the resumes submitted and interviewed the applicants; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee recommends that Nasra Wehelie be appointed to fill the vacated District 7 aldermanic seat; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council shall appoint and confirm the recommended candidate, or appoint and confirm another candidate among the applicants, per MGO 2.03(4),
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Nasra Wehelie is hereby appointed to the position of Alderperson for District 7 effective November 17, 2020 to serve until an election is held in the spring of 2021 and a qualified District 7 Alderperson is elected and sworn-in on April 20, 2021.
