Title

Removing Sankofa Community and Behavioral Health and adding National Alliance of Mental Illness Wisconsin, Inc. to the list of nine (9) community-based organizations that will provide the Mayor and Common Council with nominations for the Police Oversight Board members.

Body

WHEREAS, on September 1, 2020, by Resolution RES-20-00631 (Legislative File 61667) the Common Council created a list of nine (9) community-based organizations that will provide the Mayor and Common Council with nominations for Police Oversight Board members pursuant to M.G.O. § 5.20(3)(a)3, including Sankofa Community and Behavioral Health (“Sankofa”); and,

WHEREAS, since September 1, 2020, Sankofa informed the City that it could not participate in the nominating process; and,

WHEREAS, Sankofa was selected as one of the nine (9) community-based organizations because of its experience with community and behavioral health services; and,

WHEREAS, M.G.O. § 5.20(3)(a)3 requires that an organization with community and behavioral health services provide nominations for the Board to the Mayor; and,

WHEREAS, National Alliance on Mental Illness (“NAMI”) Wisconsin, Inc. also provides community and behavioral health services; and,

WHEREAS, NAMI was on the finalist list to be one of the nine (9) community-based nominating organizations; and,

WHEREAS, NAMI is able to participate in the Police Oversight Board nominating process, which his currently underway and anticipated to be concluded by the end of September.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that NAMI is substituted for Sankofa in the list of nine (9) community-based organizations contained in RES-20-00631 that will provide the Mayor and Common Council with nominations for Police Oversight Board members pursuant to M.G.O. § 5.20(3)(a)3.
