Title
Board of Health Resolution #2020-12 to be a Recipient of The Roots and Wings Foundation Grant to Support Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) Operations
Body
The Roots and Wings Foundation was established in 2020. This is replacing the Magic Pebble Foundation which began in Wisconsin in 2012. The PHMDC Nurse Family Partnership Program has received funding for 3 years from Magic Pebble. Roots and Wings is a nonprofit private foundation which supports organizations in Wisconsin, as well as some others across the nation. This Foundation focuses on early childhood, basic needs, healthcare and human rights.

PHMDC has been a provider of NFP services since 2012. The NFP mission is to positively transform the lives of vulnerable babies, mothers and families. NFP is an evidence-based, community health program that serves low-income women pregnant with their first child. Each mother served by NFP is partnered with a registered nurse early in her pregnancy and receives ongoing nurse home visits that continue through her child’s second birthday. NFP goals are to improve pregnancy outcomes, improve child health and development and improve economic self-sufficiency.

The Roots and Wings Grant will help support NFP through the use of flexible funds for NFP clients to cover the costs of such things as: a portion of rent, car repair payment, gas cards, or educational courses. Flexible funding has proven invaluable for NFP families in previous years. Funds also support the NFP Community Advisory Board(CAB) Our CAB was formed intentionally to elevate the voices of families most impacted and thus is comprised of current and former NFP participants. These women volunteer their time to provide feedback on ways the NFP program and services in Dane County can be improved to better support young families.
