Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution amends the Police Department’s 2019 Operating Budget to increase the amount of a Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WDOT) Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Task Force grant. The 2019 Police Department capital budget includes $25,000 for this grant. WDOT has provided an additional $9,000 which will be used to fund traffic deployments beginning in November, 2019. MDP will work with the UW Police Department and the Shorewood Hills Police Department and some of the funding will be dispersed to these agencies, however, the amounts to be allocated has not been determined at this time. The grant requires a 25% local match that will be met by the TEST Team and with other pedestrian/bicycle overtime deployments. Title

WHEREAS, the 2019 Police Department Operating Budget allocated $25,000 for overtime expenses to conduct traffic enforcement activities funded by a state FY2020 bicycle and pedestrian grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation-Bureau of Transportation Safety (WI DOT-BOTS); and,
WHEREAS, In September 2019, WI DOT-BOTS increased the grant award amount the Madison Police Department by $9,000; and,
WHEREAS, WI DOT-BOTS now requires that all their grant-funded activities be carried out by collaborating agencies (a “task force”) and has designated the University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department and Shorewood Hills Police Department as our collaborating agencies.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Police Department’s 2019 Operating Budget is amended to appropriate $9,000 in additional grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation-Bureau of Transportation Safety to be used for the purposes of the grant, including modifications upon appropriate approvals from the funder, WDOJ-BOTS.
