Authorization for a Special Election for 8th Aldermanic District of the Madison Common Council.

Body

WHEREAS, Avra Reddy resigned as Alder from the 8th District of the Madison Common Council, effective September 30, 2019, and,

WHEREAS, pursuant to Sec. 2.03 MGO, the Common Council will appoint a person to serve as Alder from the 8th District, until a successor is elected and qualified, and,

WHEREAS, because the vacancy has occurred prior to December 1, 2019,  pursuant to Sec. 17.23(1)(a), Wis. Stats., a successor must be elected for the residue of the term on the first Tuesday in April, 2020;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that a Special Election shall be held to fill the residue of the term of Alder for the 8th District, on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.  If three (3) or more candidates qualify for their name to be placed on the ballot, a Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.  Nomination Papers may be circulated beginning December 1, 2019 and shall be filed no later than 5 PM at the close of business on January 7, 2020.  The term of the newly elected Alder will begin on April 21, 2020 and will end on April 20, 2021.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is authorized to undertake all actions necessary pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes Chapters 5-12, 17, 62 and 66 for conducting this special election for the 8th District of the Madison Common Council, as set forth in this Resolution.
