Title

Indicating the support of the City of Madison Mayor and Common Council for Dane County’s request for FEMA funding to complete repairs and upgrades to the Tenney Dam control structure and immediate downstream conveyance.

Body

WHEREAS, Dane County has met with FEMA with regard reimbursement for damages incurred as a result of the lake flooding that occurred largely as a result of the he Aug 20th 2018 storm event that impacted the Western and Northwestern portion of the Lake Mendota Watershed; and

 

WHEREAS, FEMA representatives encouraged Dane County officials to submit for funding to repair and improve the functioning of the Tenney Dam and related structures; and

 

WHEREAS, Dane County staff has identified multiple projects that meet the criteria described by FEMA; and

 

WHEREAS, the projects identified include 1) Boat House Fortification, 2) Berm Reinforcement, 3) Tenney Dam Security, 4) Tenney Dam gate arm, struts, and skin upgrades, and 5) Yahara River Sediment Removal; and

 

WHEREAS, the proposed improvements are estimated to cost $2,900,387; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Madison has a significant interest in the proposed improvement; and

 

WHEREAS, FEMA has indicated that the request from Dane County to FEMA requires the support of the City of Madison;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council express their support for Dane County’s reimbursement request to FEMA for repairs and improvement to the Tenney Dam Structure and immediately adjacent lands.
