Fiscal Note

The proposed resolution approves an agreement with MATC for Fire and EMT training and testing services and the use of certified instructors employed by the Fire Department. The 2019 Fire Department Operating Budget includes $15,000 for costs associated with EMT training and $2,500 for firefighter and EMT testing.

Approving an agreement with Madison Area Technical College (MATC) for fire and emergency medical technician training and testing services.

 

Body

The City of Madison Fire Department must train new employees (recruit classes) and provide refresher training to maintain ongoing certification/licensure for emergency response personnel.  MATC and the Fire Department have worked closely together for many years so that certified fire/ems instructors employed by the Fire Department are able to conduct the required training for Fire Department employees.

 

MATC controls curriculum and provides MFD personnel certain training courses and testing services. The Fire Department provides qualified and State certified instructors. MATC is paid for its training and testing services by the City.

 

The term of this agreement starts on July 1, 2019 and ends on June 30, 2022.  The agreement may be extended for a period of up to three years starting on July 1, 2022.  Any extension to this agreement must be executed in writing and signed by both parties. The Fire Chief can execute the extension of this agreement for the City.

 

WHEREAS, the City Fire Department operates an emergency response program requiring employee licensure/certification.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City approve the agreement with the Madison Area Technical College for Fire Department training and testing services.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Clerk are authorized to execute the agreement and the Fire Chief is authorized to approve extension of this agreement for up to three years.
