Accepting ownership of the artwork "Updraft" as well as the sculptural adornments of the fence that surrounds the garden and the bench by Michael Burns, a public art feature and placemaking project located in Brittingham Park, near Main Street and Brittingham Place.
Body
WHEREAS the Madison Arts Commission's mission is to fund artistic activities and initiate cultural programs that integrate, support, and advance arts and culture as an essential part of life in Madison; and

WHEREAS the Common Council adopted Resolution number RES-14-00397, ID number 33868 on May 21, 2014 approving Art in Public Places funding in the amount of $6,329 to the Bayview Foundation, Inc. on behalf of the Monona Bay Neighborhood Association for the creation of a site specific sculpture by Michael Burns; and

WHEREAS Neighborhood Grants are awarded to help neighborhood associations build capacity and beautify public places, and to help improve the quality of life within neighborhoods, and the City as a whole; and

WHEREAS the Common Council adopted RES-14-00301, ID No. 33583 on April 29, 2014 approving a neighborhood grant in the amount of $5,000.00 to Monona Bay Neighborhood Association for Artist Honoraria for the design, construction and installation details of the benches and fence ornamentation of the Brittingham Community Garden Place Making Project; and

WHEREAS one of the conditions of the contract requires that upon completion of the sculpture and other elements of this placemaking project the neighborhood organization will submit proof of an endowment to support ongoing maintenance of the sculpture and site and maintenance instructions from the artist, that the City of Madison will accept ownership of the sculpture; and

WHEREAS Monona Bay Neighborhood Association has established an endowment in the amount of $5,200 at the Madison Parks Foundation Inc. to support the City’s ongoing expenses related to the repa...
