Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution authorizes the City to enter into a non-disclosure agreement with MG&E to allow sharing of information with city staff and consultants that may be otherwise protected and confidential. The non-disclosure agreement will support the negotiation process for a potential contract for solar energy via the MG&E Renewable Energy Rider program. No appropriation is required for the authorization of the non-disclosure agreement proposed in this resolution.

If an agreement is reached in the future between the City and MG&E for renewable energy purchase via the MG&E Renewable Energy Rider program, costs to the city will be incurred and funding will be subject to future budgetary processes.

WHEREAS in 2017 the Common Council adopted by resolution a community-wide Energy and Carbon goal of 100% renewable energy and net-zero carbon emissions, within a time-frame that aligns with sound and established science, as official energy and carbon goals of the City of Madison; and,

WHEREAS in 2017 the Common Council approved a resolution where the City of Madison and Madison Gas & Electric work on common environmental goals in collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding; and,

WHEREAS in 2017 Madison Gas & Electric created a new program called the Renewable Energy Rider which can provide renewable energy to power all or a portion of MGE’s business customers including the City of Madison. Madison Gas & Electric is the first utility in Wisconsin to offer this opportunity; and,
