The proposed resolution authorizes acceptance of $6,000 in grant funding from the Evjue Foundation and amends the Planning Division’s 2019 Adopted Operating Budget to contract with artist Melanie Stimmel/We Talk Chalk for purchased services in the same amount. No additional City appropriation is required.

Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison, working with the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID) to create “Science to Street Art” a project that will connect UW Madison scientists with street artists to produce science themed educational street and workshops; and

WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, has selected artist Melanie Stimmel’s “We Talk Chalk, Inc.” to come to Madison to conduct Science to Street Art workshops in schools, museums, and community centers; and

WHEREAS, Melanie Stimmel’s company “We Talk Chalk, Inc.” was selected for this project, by WID’s Illuminating Discovery Hub, because of the artist’s background using street art education as a way to engage and empower at risk youth and Melanie Stimmel’s international reputation for creating three dimensional street art and renaissance style portraiture, and

WHEREAS, the City applied to the Evjue Foundation for funds to support the art residency and workshops portion of the Science to Street Art project.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Planning Division Director is authorized to accept the Evjue Foundation grant totaling $6,000 and amending the 2019 Planning Division operating budget.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Common Council authorizes expenditures of the available funds of up to $6,000 to “We Talk Chalk, Inc” to offset Melanie Stimmel’s travel, materials, an...
