The proposed resolution authorizes a cost reimbursement agreement with the FBI for three federal fiscal years, for the period of October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2021. The grant is expected to reimburse up to $22,500 for overtime expenses related to violence reduction efforts over the three year period. There is no City matching requirement.

Body
WHEREAS, the City and Madison Police Department recognize violent crime as a critical issue for the community; and,

WHEREAS, MPD recognizes that partnerships with other law enforcement entities results in a more effective and efficient response to violent crime; and,

WHEREAS, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is interested in working with MPD’s Violent Crime Unit to address violent crime in the community; and,

WHEREAS, this partnership will enhance MPD’s capacity to prevent and investigate violent crimes; and,

WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice will provide reimbursement to MPD for certain overtime expenses related to violent crime investigations.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chief of Police is authorized sign a Cost Reimbursement Agreement with the FBI annually for three years (based on federal fiscal years, so through September 30, 2021) for a total amount of $22,500 for overtime expenses.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the 2019 Adopted Operating Budget is amended to appropriate $22,500 that any grant funds received are appropriated to the Madison Police Department to be used for the purposes of the agreement, including modifications upon appropriate approvals from the FBI.
