Title

Request by the Madison Parks Foundation to designate the shoreline at Burrows Park the Grant J. Frautschi Shoreline.

Body

The request by the Madison Parks Foundation to designate the shoreline at Burrows Park as the Grant J. Frautschi Shoreline was received and reviewed by staff.  As a part of the review, staff determined it was most appropriate for the Parks Commission to consider this request directly given Mr. Frautschi’s continued service on the Long Range Planning Subcommittee. The request is in accordance with the “Statement of Policies and Guidelines for Naming Parks and Recreation Areas Within the Madison Park System.”

Mr. Frautschi has made significant contributions to the advancement and improvement of the Madison Park System.  He has been instrumental in developing and leading the Madison Parks Foundation for over 13 years.  The Parks Foundation under Mr. Frautschi’s leadership moved from a simple pass through organization to the primary non-profit partner for the Parks Division.  MPF has a staff person and has worked on fundraising for numerous key projects and programs including the Elver and Reindahl Splash pads, numerous playground improvements, the Parks Learn To series, the Connecting Children to Nature Initiative, and Warner Park Community and Recreation Center programs.  Mr. Frautschi has also served on the Long Range Planning Subcommittee of the Parks Commission for 8 years and has been a key contributor to the 2012-2016 and 2017-2021 Park and Open Space Plans.
