Title
Commending and thanking Alderperson Mark Clear for his dedicated service to his constituents in District 19 and the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, Alderperson Mark Clear was first elected on April 3, 2007 to represent the 19th District; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Mark Clear served as Common Council President Pro Tem for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 terms and Common Council President for the 2010-2011 term; and,
WHEREAS, during his tenure Alderperson Mark Clear served on the Ad Hoc Landmarks Ordinance Review Committee, Board of Education-Common Council Liaison Committee, Board of Estimates, Board of Park Commissioners, Board of Public Works, City-County Liaison Committee, Common Council Executive Committee, Common Council Organizational Committee, Common Council Work Group to Review Snow Policies and Procedures, Commission on People with Disabilities, Digital Technology Committee, Disability Rights Commission, East Washington Avenue 800 Block North Committee, Economic Development Committee, Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Board of Directors, Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Community Relations Committee, Housing Diversity Planning Ad Hoc Committee, Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award Committee, Advisory Committee to Guide Development and Implementation of a Neighborhood Support Office, Madison Area Transportation Planning Board, Platinum Biking City Planning Committee, President’s Work Group on Improvements to the Budget Process, President’s Work Group on the Overture Center, Room Tax Commission, Transportation Ordinance Review Ad Hoc Committee, Union Corners Ad Hoc Committee and the TIF Policy Review Ad Hoc Committee (twice!); and,
WHEREAS, during Alderperson Clear’s tenure he stewarded the reconstruction of University Avenue and Old Middleton Road to beautify the built environment and improve bicycle and pedestrian safety; and,
WHEREAS, he put in many late nights working on restructuring the Overture to prevent its financial collapse and putting it on a path for success; and,
WHEREAS, he chaired the work group that looked at alternative revenue sources for the city that eventually created the Urban Forestry Special Charge that protects our urban forest; and,
WHEREAS, he worked on legalizing the Naked Bike Ride in Madison, but apparently has never participated because we have no photographic evidence; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Clear through his tireless dedication to his aldermanic duties has faithfully and with honor served his constituents and the City of Madison,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and the Common Council commend and thank Alderperson Mark Clear for his dedicated service to his constituents in District 19 and the City of Madison and wish him well in all his future endeavors.
