Commending, honoring, and expressing appreciation to David C. Dryer, City Traffic Engineer and Parking Manager, on his retirement from the City of Madison after 22 years of exemplary service.
Body
WHEREAS, David Dryer began his employment with the City of Madison on June 17, 1996 as City Traffic Engineer, and after twenty-two years of dedicated service to the City of Madison, will retire from his position of City Traffic Engineer and Parking Manager on June 19, 2018; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership, David and his staff team have made Madison one of the safest large cities for pedestrians in the United States, as determined by the national organization Smart Growth America; and

WHEREAS, he collaborated with elected officials and staff to implement projects and programs to make Madison a better place to live, including the development of the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program; and

WHEREAS, he worked with Mayors and Alders, project by project, to address transportation related issues and advance the City’s transportation goals, and on large projects to small improvements, where his leadership made a real difference, benefitting all modes of transportation; and

WHEREAS, David and his team used state of the art improvements to make Madison a better place for pedestrians and cyclists, and under his leadership, the City of Madison was able to achieve a “Platinum” rating from the League of American Bicyclists; and

WHEREAS, he fostered a culture of openness, collaboration, and continuous professional growth that encouraged staff to express ideas and seek creative and innovative solutions to transportation challenges; and

WHEREAS, unprecedented redevelopment has occurred in Madison’s central core, which unlike many large cities, is not served by a freeway system and under David’s leadership, his staff were able to develop innovative solutions that provided access for new developments without burdening the tra...
