Commending and thanking Alderperson Marsha Rummel for her dedicated and conscientious service during her tenure as President of the Madison Common Council.

Body

WHEREAS, Alderperson Marsha Rummel was elected by her peers to the office of President of the Madison Common Council on April 18, 2017 for the 2017-2018 term; and,

 

WHEREAS, Council President Rummel met weekly with Mayor Paul Soglin and Council Vice-President Samba Baldeh to actively discuss important and pressing city issues; and,

 

WHEREAS, Council President Rummel and Council Vice-President Baldeh met monthly with MPD Chief Mike Koval and his team to discuss public safety issues and concerns; and,

 

WHEREAS, during her term as Common Council President, Alderperson Rummel served as chair of the Common Council Executive Committee and served on the Finance Committee, Ad Hoc Landmarks Ordinance Review Committee, Landmarks Commission, President’s Work Group on Police & Community Relations and the Public Market Development Committee and attended the MPD Policy & Procedure Ad Hoc Review meetings as the Council’s representative; and,

 

WHEREAS, during Alderperson Rummel’s tenure as Common Council President she scheduled a variety of discussions, briefings and informational presentations for the members of the Common Council:

                     Update on the Public Market (7/11/17)

                     Presentation: Human Trafficking in the City of Madison (7/18/17)

                     Update on Madison Comprehensive Plan (9/5/17)

                     Presentation: Performance Excellence (11/7/17)

                     Joint Discussion of the Common Council & the MPD Policy & Procedure Ad Hoc Review Committee on the OIR Report & Recommendations (11/1/18)

WHEREAS, during Alderperson Rummel’s tenure the following President Work Groups and Task Force were created to directly address city-related issues:

 

                     President’s Work Group on Police & Community Relations

                     President’s Work Group to Develop City-Wide Surveillance Equipment and Data Management Policies

                     Task Force on City Government Structure; and,

 

WHEREAS, Alderperson Rummel was instrumental in managing the hiring process for the Council’s first Chief of Staff along with Council Vice-President Baldeh, Human Resource Department staff and Council staff; and,

 

WHEREAS, Alderperson Rummel fulfilled her duties as Common Council President with integrity, thoughtfulness and decorum and ably served her constituents in the 6th District,

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and members of the Madison Common Council commend and thank Alderperson Marsha Rummel for her dedicated and conscientious service during her tenure as President of the Madison Common Council.
