Fiscal Note

The proposed resolution authorizes approval of the Madison Arts Commission’s recommendation for the 2018-2019 Arts Grants awards. The Madison Arts Commission received 75 applications, totaling $166,050 in requests. The commission recommends funding 72 projects totaling $100,150. The Planning Division’s 2018 Adopted Operating Budget includes $106,010 to fund such grants recommended by the Madison Arts Commission. No additional City appropriation is required.

Seeking Common Council approval of the 2018-2019 Arts Grants awards funding as recommended by the Madison Arts Commission.

Body

WHEREAS, The Madison Arts Commission has the authority, by ordinance, to annually recommend arts grants for approval by the Common Council; and

 

WHEREAS, By the March 15 application deadline the Madison Arts Commission received 75 applications for arts projects funding, totaling $166,050 in requests, reflecting a need for financial support that the Arts Commission is unable to meet at its current funding level; and

 

WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission met on March 28 & 29, and April 2, 2018 to evaluate the applications received for the 2018-2019 grant period and on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 the full Commission voted to recommend funding of 72 projects for grant awards totaling $100,150.00.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Madison Common Council approves the 2018-2019 grant awards funding recommendations of the Madison Arts Commission and authorizes the Planning Division Director, The Finance Director and the City Attorney to execute the agreements on behalf of the City of Madison to effectuate said grants.
