Breese Stevens Facility Plan and Concession and Restroom Upgrade

Body

In 2016, the Parks Division hired Isthmus Architecture to prepare a facility report for Breese Stevens Field. The report identified necessary maintenance improvements to the historic venue for the next 15 years. Previous studies reviewed specific aspects of the stadium but a comprehensive look at the overall facility was needed. In addition to long-term maintenance items, recommendations on potential operational improvements were identified with the assistance of the current operator, Big Top Events. Two primary operational deficiencies outlined were the lack of a commercial concession kitchen and permanent restroom facilities at the field elevation. The facility report was completed in 2017 and Parks is proposing the addition of a 3,780-gsf concession/restroom addition to the stadium. The proposed building addition was approved from the Wisconsin State Historical Society, the City of Madison Landmarks Commission and Urban Design Commission. The building project is currently scheduled for construction bidding in early 2018, with the majority of construction occurring during the 2018-19 event off-season. In addition to the new building, renovation of the historic 1925 stadium façade is part of the 2018 work.
